Bo was absolutely wonderful in discussing everything with us for our tankless water heater. The crew that worked to take out of tank water heater, and install the tankless was heater were great as well. We couldn't have asked for a better experience with Hats Off Heating and Air Conditioning. We actually hired them to be our AC/Heat guys for all tuneups in the future even though we did like our previous company, Hats Off was just so personable, and it's nice to have the same company for everything. Thank you Bo, and Team for a great job, and a seamless experience.Posted on GoogleMargaret GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

I called Hats Off because they had great reviews and are family-owned. I had a clogged drain line from heat pump that needed to be resolved because the water pan overflowed and leaked through my ceiling. The technician, Evan, was very kind and walked me through everything he was doing including taking before/after pictures. He recognized the issue, cleaned out the line, and also recommended a safety switch to prevent the heat pump from continuing to run if the line gets clogged again. He was able to install the switch during the same visit. I appreciate their integrity and transformation. I was not left guessing about what was going on or what I was paying for. Thank you to Evan and Hats Off.Posted on GoogleJaclyn MTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

Newport News is a city of contrasts when it comes to housing age. Hilton Village, built in the early twentieth century as one of the first federally funded planned communities in the country, still has homes with plumbing systems that have been patched together across generations. Denbigh, developed decades later, has its own set of issues as 1970s era pipe materials begin to show their age.
The James River’s tidal influence also means groundwater levels shift throughout the year, which can put pressure on buried pipes and lead to shifting or settling that stresses joints over time.
Watch for these signs that plumbing repair may be needed:
Because Newport News homes vary so widely in age, a plumber familiar with older materials as well as modern fixtures is worth having on call.
In older Hilton Village homes, water heaters are often installed in tight basement or closet spaces that were never updated when the unit itself was replaced over the years. That can complicate both repair access and eventual replacement, which is why our technicians take the time to assess the installation itself, not just the appliance.
Whether your unit is short cycling, producing lukewarm water, or leaking from the tank seams, we’ll walk you through what’s actually wrong before recommending water heater repair or replacement. Newer Denbigh homes with more standard installations usually offer more straightforward fixes.
When a new unit is the right call, we handle the installation with attention to code requirements and back it with a two year labor warranty.
Between the older cast iron drain lines still found in parts of Hilton Village and the root intrusion common in established Denbigh yards, drain cleaning is one of the most common calls we get across Newport News. Sediment from the James River’s tidal flow can also affect groundwater conditions that contribute to slow drainage in low lying properties.
Our full service plumbing covers what Newport News homeowners need most:
We show up prepared to diagnose and resolve most plumbing issues in one visit, saving you the back and forth of multiple appointments.
A few months back, Wayne, a homeowner in Hilton Village, called us about a bathroom sink that had stopped draining entirely. He mentioned the house still had much of its original plumbing since it was built almost a century ago.
Our technician found that the original cast iron drain pipe had narrowed significantly over the decades, with mineral deposits and old debris nearly sealing off the opening. Given the age and condition of the pipe, a simple snake wouldn’t have solved the underlying problem for long.
We replaced the affected section with modern PVC piping, which resolved the clog and also reduced the chances of a repeat issue in that part of the system. Wayne said he appreciated knowing the difference between a patch job and a real fix, and he’s had no problems since.
From historic Hilton Village to newer Denbigh developments, Newport News homeowners trust us for a reason:
We bring the same standard of honest work to every home, whether it’s a century old bungalow or a home built last decade.
Yes. We provide emergency plumbing service for burst pipes, major leaks, and sewer backups throughout Newport News. Call any time and we’ll send a technician as soon as possible.
It can be. A wobbling toilet often means the wax seal has failed or the flooring underneath has deteriorated. Left alone, it can lead to water damage, so it’s worth having it checked.
We assess the existing pipe materials and installation before recommending a repair approach. Many older homes need a mix of patch repairs and section replacements depending on what we find.
This is often caused by corrosion inside older galvanized or iron pipes. It typically clears after running the water for a moment, but frequent occurrences may mean it’s time to consider repiping.
Yes. We work with tight installation spaces common in older Newport News homes and can recommend a unit configuration that fits, including tankless options where space is limited.
